Let Me Be

While you think you mean well, it’s only pain that you cause.
Do you speak truths or feed me more lies?
It matters so little now.
I don’t want to know.
I’m not strong enough to listen.
I’m not ready enough to care.
I’m no longer interested in anything you say.
You can’t change this past.
You have no bearing on my future.
All we had is dead.
I don’t want to move forward.
I’m not willing to try.
Take with you your heart and your sympathy, with you and go away.
Take your guilt and your deceit and use them on another.
I’m not ready to understand.
I choose not to smile.

Please let me be, your presence alone brings an unnerving discomfort.
Please walk away, I’m not your concern.
Please don’t call, each word causes me to doubt you more.
Please don’t visit, it’s the only way I’ll al.

The more you say, the more you do, the more you destroy me.
The more you say, the more you tarnish any good I once felt.
You cannot fix the damage you’ve caused.
You cannot correct what you have so carelessly broken.
You cannot pull out this knife in my heart.
While I admit it hurts, it’s still keeping me together.
Each failed attempt spews past love now interpreted as lies.
Each failed attempt breeds new anger and new hurt.

Please let me be, you bring only pain.
Please walk away, I’m not your concern.
Please don’t call, all I hear are lies.
Please don’t visit, it’s the only way I’ll heal.

Sometimes when we try to help someone or when someone thinks that they are helping you, it is the exact opposite effect that occurs. Sometimes the healing process can only begin when the person who brought the pain permanently distances themselves from the equation.
