Bring Us Together, Tear Us Apart

How do you do it?
You’re so strong
You amazing, incredible woman
Every moment we’re together, you impress me even more
Circumstances unwavering
Much less would weaken me
Yet you stand so tall
Keeping me positive
Keeping me strong
Filling me with hope

When others crumble with such adversity
You continue to soar
Conquering all tests encountered
I curse this society
Today I hate what this stands for
Its inability to distinguish right from wrong
Associating you by just a single action
You’re this
You’re that
They don’t know you
And they don’t care about you
If they could open their eyes
They would see the kindest heart that they could ever know
The most benevolent soul they ever could meet
Forcing them to put a name over their stigmas
And welcome you with open arms

The weight of the world seemingly on your shoulders
Yet no one can tell
It helps define who you are,
the woman I adore
the woman I love
They would see the kindest heart that they could ever know
The most benevolent soul they ever could meet
Forcing them to put a name over their stigmas
And welcome you with open arms

You bend, but don’t break
I’d be on the ground screaming why
Yet you ask no questions
Rather, you search for answers
Changing what you can,
Understanding what you cannot
Always thanking God for all things good

They’ve taken the word free
And have attempted to make it all theirs
They’ve taken God’s most beautiful gift
And have made it as cruel, unforgiving

But they don’t care
They want you to leave
And I can only cry
Trying to do all that I can
To help you
To love you
To give you this world
Until ultimately I fail

So often, the circumstances that bring two individuals together is the same circumstance that can drive the same two people apart. That is the theme of this poem. A situation draws the reader towards the girl and wants nothing better than to save her. But as he truly begins to appreciate the situation, he realizes that so much is beyond his control. The woman in this poem is going through some challenging circumstances. Yet, in the face of difficulty, she soars. He is amazed by her bravery. He is in awe of the woman that she is. Yet, he is distraught that no matter what he does, he cannot overcome the situation, and as close as the of them can become, it will ultimately end in them never being able to stay together.
