Wishing Well

Take here this coin and answer these wishes
I wish I could walk away
I wish I could settle
I wish that this night would soon become day
I wish for an identity
I wish for an existence
I wish I didn’t feel so far away when you’re standing so close
I wish I could recognize
I wish I could move
I wish I made the laws, for there’s a few I’d soon amend
I wish for the things that I know I can’t change

Take here this coin and make true these wishes
I wish I knew God
I wish for better ears
I wish I had a voice
I wish for the dramatic or at least a single tear
I wish for a flare gun, unused but functional
I wish I was the first ornament you put on your tree
I wish for these things that I know I can’t have
Take here this coin and turn these wishes real
I wish I was a prophet
I wish for a vision
I wish for a truth
I wish for a knowledge
I wish for a cure
I wish for a thirst
I wish for the things that I know I can’t find

Take here this coin and fulfill these wishes, please
I wish I didn’t quiver
I wish I was beautiful inside and out
I wish to feel familiar
I wish I were a lion
I wish I were blind
I wish I were an anchor
I wish for the qualities that I know are not me
I wish my letters weren’t always marked return to sender

Take here my coin; this coin is now yours

Wanting to be a completely different person and wanting to live a completely different life but not having the ability or desire to do anything about it, the speaker can only hope for what feels like a miracle.
