Sometimes the emotions just need to come out

Writing has always been my sanctuary. I've been writing stories since I learned to make letters into words. It's my creative outlet and what I prefer to do in my free time, more often than not, anything else.

I became aggressive with writing poetry in 2002. Poetry has become my favorite form of writing. I like the freedom it allows. My first love of pen and paper came in the form of short stories, something I wish I did more frequently. I've also written two and a half novels. The third one I've been working on for over twenty years. I'll finish it one day because I like the characters so much, and I think I have something to say with the story. Additionally, I have a movie review blog, which I do just for fun.

The strength of my poetry is my honesty. When I first started writing, I would hold back because I was worried about what people might think. Unfortunately, those earlier poems felt more like fluff, and I wasn't happy with them.

My poems most often revolve around themes of broken relationships, depression, anxiety, conflicting ideals, regret, and loss.

While my writing on this site is serious in tone, there are topics that I will not touch. I don't write about physical violence, nor will you ever read words such as "gun" or "murder" in any of my poems. I also don't swear in my poetry because I like the challenge of having my readers reach a particular emotion without what feels like a cheap out.

Aside from writing, I like to do other things on the computer, such as creating websites and movie trailers. I find great joy in my nieces and nephews and my dog. I'm a huge sports fan (college basketball, pro football, baseball, hockey, soccer), and I'm always looking to start a new television series.

I live 15 miles outside of Washington, DC, and enjoy going to the city whenever I can.
