Alone

Trying to exist in a world where the memories of a ghost outweigh the living alternatives
Vying to find a small place in a heart that is unable to accommodate a new type of love
The looks of betrayal that extend across her face each time she forces herself to try
There is no denying that these moves are forced, lost she remains in her feelings of grief

When every new day brings incredible amounts of loneliness
When every attempt produces unsolicited amounts of pain
When every new situation brings bouts of uncontrolled anxiety
When every act results in me feeling worse than even the moment before
When every move feels wrong, she knows that she is forever in this fight alone

Seeking comfort, she found herself drawn to the honest man with the warm smile
Seeking companionship, she accepted his invitation for a night on the town
Seeking affection, she permitted herself to be wined and dined, enticed and seduced
Seeking intimacy, she brought him home and quietly led him up to her bed

Yearning for a return to normalcy; a place where sadness would no longer rule the day
Searching for opportunities where passion could be central in helping to create a meaningful life
Though it felt differently, she still tried to convince herself that she could learn to love once again
But her she is, more fractured and bruised than before, left alone to go her separate way

When every new day brings incredible amounts of loneliness
When every attempt produces unsolicited amounts of pain
When every new situation brings bouts of uncontrolled anxiety
When every act results in me feeling worse than even the moment before
When every move feels wrong, he knows that she is forever in this fight alone

Though she wants to see the colors of the day, all she sees is the same dark haze
Corrosion has irreversibly eroded a foundation that she had spent a lifetime trying to construct
Without desire, she looks blankly towards the nighttime stars and begs to see a sign
Needing to believe in something, regardless of what it is, that life is still worth the fight
