Walk With Me

Here on earth,
Our time so precious, you’re crumbling.
You’re dying inside…wasting away.
Sorrow is your dagger.
It’s pierced your skin and you’re bleeding
But I’ll keep it away from your heart.
Come with me to the outside…live again.
You’re sad now, that’s normal.
I would be too.
And while you think that I can’t understand,
I can sympathize.
I can feel for you.
I can be there for you.
I can love you.
Your isolation is so uncharacteristic.
Your withdrawal shows a side that isn’t you.
Though right now you don’t see it,
I’m hurting too.
Your sadness pains me.
My heart aches when you push me away.
Share with me.
I’ll be here for you.
Let me help you…life is so much more.
I want to show you this.
I want you to remember before.
I want you to live again.
So just come outside with me.
Even if just for a while.
It’s a start.
Out there it is warm, bright, and inviting
I’ll hold your hand every step of the way
You don’t have to do this alone
There is a world you are hiding from
A life that you are missing
Happiness. Compassion. Love.
All of these things and more
We’ll go slowly. One day at a time
Don’t cower. Don’t hide.
It’s not your nature to do so.
Walk with me.
Walk with me and I’ll help get you through.
You can count on me.

Another poem that I wrote when I first entered the genre. This poem itself isn't very good, but it holds a message that has sort of evaded me since then. The message for this poem is that we all suffer setbacks and we all need people in our lives to help us overcome these setbacks. Sometimes all it takes for us to believe that the situation we find ourselves will get better is a pat on the back. Sometimes it is much more. Sometimes we need somebody to walk into our bedroom, pull us out from under the covers, dress us, make us breakfast, and lead us on a simple walk around our neighborhood to help us start our day. Perhaps that is all we end up doing with that day, but at least it's a start.

Setbacks are inevitable. There are various degrees of setbacks as we know and different ways with which we attempt to cope with these setbacks. Some of us have the resources that others of us do not have. But the resounding message in this poem is that no matter who we are, we can't do everything on our own. Much like we believe we can be there for somebody important when they need us the most, it is important to believe in others in our times of need. It is important to believe that either a partner, a good friend, a loving sibling, or a naturing parent will be there to help us in our time of need and help us in our time of need, not just in the short term, but whenever we need them, for as long as we need them.
